XVII. Vintage Trailer Restore

Here is the before pic:

The basic plan was to bring the trailer to NC for sandblasting & painting. Like many things in life, easier said than done.

First we tried Uship which would have been the easiest for us - the best offer was $500 each way. :-(

Secondly, we took a look at renting a Uhaul but ended up with a decision to just tow it ourselves. This would have to dealt with eventually. That led to the following chain of events:

• the trailer needed to be registered in order to cross state lines. A couple of trips to the DMV got this done.

• Checked the tires - old but no dry rot. Figured we could give it a go provided there was a spare. But, even a tire company could not get it to hold air.

• So, we changed the plan to entire wheel replacements. Tried locally but nobody had in stock. Bought online. Unfortunately, the direct replacements, based on size, would not work.

• Full circle! We’ve gone all the way back to the trailer on trailer approach. With a twist though. We’ll re-use the existing wheels by adding them to the sandblast / paint project then mounting new rubber.
