XI. Lower Hull Exterior

Hull was originally fiberglassed to the waterline. Unfortunately, this eventually broke down. A previous owner removed some of the Fiberglass matting.

First, the boat needs to be flipped. My previous two boats were done with a mechanics’ creeper :-(

Second, the stern section of the bottom needs to be secured. As noted in the transom posting, 4200 was used to adhere the hull to the transom. This will be done with mechanical fasteners. One row of screws through the battens into the “nailer”. Another row of screws through the 4200 into the new transom section.

There are three restoration options:

1) continue the removal process, assess what needs to be done then carry on. An option presented itself for marine plywood. So, I bought enough to recover the entire bottom- just in case.

2) make required hull repairs then recover removed fiberglass.

3) cover entire hull with a thin layer of marine plywood. Yes, over the fiberglass

Lastly, paint - probably in midnight blue to match trim.
