1. Original transom is Philippine mahogany but pretty rough for a varnished finish

2. I try a coat of penetrating epoxy, to see the "look", not good enough.....

3. I make a blank out ot quarter-sawn white oak

3. Decide to flush cut on the boat to get flares correct

4. Will finish with penetrating epoxy and varnish
